Vernon Lavelle Weatherford, 84, of Attica passed away Monday, October 16, 2023, at his home.

Vernon was born April 9, 1939, in Attica, AR., to James Farmington Weatherford and Bessie Jane Seagraves Weatherford. Vernon had a deep devotion to his family; home was the family gathering place. He was very active in the church community, being a deacon and elder in numerous churches. He was a Bible class teacher, Bible Scholar, and counselor and a deacon at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Attica. Vernon was and an avid sports fan of the Cardinals and Razorbacks. He was hospitable to everyone he met. He was best known as Papa Vern.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Bessie Weatherford; wife, Helen June Weatherford; son, Mickie Weatherford, and daughter, Vickie Houston and thirteen siblings.

He is survived by his children, Deborah (Jimmy) Williams of Webster Groves, MO., and Cindie Weatherford of Pocahontas, AR.; six grandchildren, Michael Weatherford of St. Louis, Sarah (Chris) Landers of St. Louis, Rachel (Kevin) Peters of Jackson, MO, Tim (Sarah) Houston of Hillsboro, MO., Brian Houston of Tennessee, Angel Houston of St. Louis, MO., daughter in law, Pamela Weatherford of St. Lois, MO.; ten great grandchildren; brother Wesley (Anna) Weatherford of Waterloo, IL., many nieces and nephews, family and friends.

Visitation will be held 10:00 – 11:00 A.M. Saturday, October 21, 2023, in the McNabb Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 A.M. with Jeremy Bundren officiating. Burial will follow at Maynard Cemetery.
