Sue Young

Sue Agnes Young, 101, of the Birdell community passed away December 19, 2022 at her home.

She was born October 13, 1921 in Birdell to the late Robert Claude “Bob” and Maudie “Maud” Hardin Johnson. She worked as a housekeeper and was a longtime member of the Birdell Church of Christ.

In 1949, she met Melvin Young and together they went on to have seven children. Sue was a wonderful and loving mother who gave her all to her family. We will never be able to fill the space left behind by her.

In 2001, Sue was one of the first board members of the Eddie Mae Herron Center. She served on the board until she was not able to make events but continued to serve as an Honorary member until she passed. One of Sue’s loves and passions was quilting. She was allowed to share her skills at the center by demonstrating quilting and making butter with local students.

She is survived by one son, Johnny Young; three daughters, Melba West, Merlyn Young, and Francille Young; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, and many friends.

Visitation will be Friday, December 30, 2022 from 10 AM – 12 PM in the chapel of McNabb Funeral Home with a funeral service beginning at 12 PM with Joshua Dement officiating. Burial will follow in the Hardin Cemetery at Birdell.
