Redskins hand Gosnell 1st conference loss, secure playoff spot
GOSNELL—The Redskins went into Gosnell Friday night poised to bring down the first-place Pirates and that they would do – hard.
The `Skins defeated the Pirates 45-18 in, perhaps, the sharpest, most fundamentally-sound performance they’ve put up all season to hand Gosnell their first conference loss of the year.
The loss puts Gosnell and Westside, both 5-1, tied for first place in the 4A-3 Conference while Pocahontas and Rivercrest, both 4-2, are tied for second. Depending on how this week plays out, the Redskins may find themselves in a tie-breaker situation before entering the state playoffs next Friday night, Nov. 15. The big game this week will be Gosnell at Westside tomorrow night. If Pocahontas lands the No. 2 seed as opposed to the third, they’ll play host in the first round.
“I just think our kids are clicking right now for each other,” said Redskin Head Coach Charles Baty Monday afternoon in his office. “We had a tremendous week of preparation. I thought, offensively… defensively… we had a really good game plan and I think our kids went out there and executed it. It was a great atmosphere all the way around. Just a real exciting night overall.”
