Redskins fall to Batesville to close out 2019 season
BROOKLAND—The Redskin baseball team’s season came to an end Friday afternoon at Brookland in the first round of the 4A-3 district tournament where the `Skins fell to Batesville 13-2.
The Redskins finish out the year at 15-8 overall and 9-5 in conference play.
Batesville hit the bases early Friday, putting up four runs in the first inning followed by a detrimental seven-run third inning while tacking on two more runs in the fourth. The Skins’ two runs would come from one each in the third and fifth innings off two RBIs from Pocahontas junior Charley White.
Redskin sophomore Rob Mason pitched 2.67 innings, striking out three batters and walking three while allowing three hits and no earned runs. Sophomore Dawson Chester pitched two innings where he struck out one and walked none while giving up six hits and two earned runs. Freshman Hunter Singley pitched 0.33 innings with three walks, allowing no hits and two earned runs while senior Matthew Waymon also pitched part of an inning with one walk while allowing three hits and three earned runs.
