Redskins dominate in 35-8 win over Paragould
POCAHONTAS — The Redskin football team did it on both sides of the ball Friday night at Schoonover Stadium, putting up 35 points in the first half, before bringing in the second team to finish the Paragould Rams off in their 35-8 win.
Pocahontas senior, Michael Martens, called the plays Friday night, and that he did and more. Martens completed 13-of-16 passes for 76 yards and a touchdown while rushing 38 yards with another TD. It would be an all-around solid performance for the ‘Skins, however, as they intercepted six passes with two fumble recoveries.
After being held on their first series of downs, the Redskin defense took the field and quickly tallied their first fumble recovery of the night at the Ram 22-yard line. The explosive Redskin sophomore, Connor Baker, then started to do his thing, rushing for 20 yards before taking them on up to the 2-yard line for Martens to run in on keeper. Junior kicker Ethan DeYoung nailed the kick to make it 7-0 Redskins at the 3:13 mark of the first quarter.
