Pocahontas wins season opener over rival Highland

HIGHLAND—The Redskin baseball team kicked off the season Monday afternoon at Highland where they defeated the Rebels 14-7 in an impressive allaround performance.

The game would be tight starting out with Highland leading 4-2 by the end of the second inning. The `Skins came back with a sevenrun third inning, however, and went on to score another run in the fourth, one in the sixth, and three more in the seventh inning to clinch the win.

Redskin sophomore pitcher Carter Privett got the win on the mound, going 5.67 innings with 10 strikeouts and one walk while allowing seven hits and two earned runs. Redskin junior Charley White pitched one inning while senior Matthew Waymon pitched .33 innings with each tallying one strikeout.
