Lady Tigers fall in home opener

MAYNARD—The Lady Tiger basketball team played their first home game of the season Monday night where they fell to Sloan-Hendrix 47-29 to move to 1-4 on the year.

The Lady Greyhounds opened with a 14-5 first quarter lead before outscoring the Lady Tigers 19-5 in the second for a 33-10 lead at the half. Maynard sought to catch up in the second half, only being outscored 12-8 in the third and then outscoring Sloan-Hendrix 11-2 in the fourth quarter, but were never able to catch up. Maddy Jones led the Lady Tigers with eight points followed by Amanda Nelson with seven, Emma Cline with six, Jayden Seawel with three, Lexi Dobbins with two points and five rebounds, Richelle Lhamon with two points, and Alicia Martin with one point.

Friday night at Bay, the Lady Tigers fell 60-48 to the Lady Yellowjackets. Although Maynard outscored Bay in every quarter except the third, Bay’s 11 3-pointers in the third led to their win. Lady Tiger Head Coach David Byers noted the team played well in spurts but that they need to continue working on consistency. Jones once again led the way with 13 points followed by Dobbins with eight points and 13 rebounds, Lhamon eight points, Seawel eight points, Cline five points and four assists, and Olivia Crawford, Amanda Nelson, Aziza Takhi and Megan Mustread each with two points.
