Lady Redskins WBU tourney champions

WALNUT RIDGEThe Lady Redskins are no stranger to the annual WBU High School Basketball Tournament finals and proved it once again Friday night with their 37-30 overtime win over Corning.

The championship win comes after their first round 46-43 win over Maynard and 58-56 semi-final overtime win over Marmaduke. The Lady `Skins came home Monday night to host Brookland where they fell to the Lady Bearcats 57-44 to move to 6-2 overall.

In the WBU Tournament last week, Pocahontas first took on Maynard Tuesday night where a last second 3-pointer by senior guard Rylie Mangold gave them the victory. The Lady Tigers led 13-10 at the end of the first quarter before Pocahontas outscored them 15-11 in the second to take a 25-24 lead at the half. The Lady Redskins went on to outscore the Lady Tigers 12-6 in the third before Maynard outscored them 13-9 in the fourth. Pocahontas shot 40 percent from the field, going 2-for-4 from long range and 10-for-13 from the line. They also put up 25 rebounds with 12 turnovers. Maynard shot 33 percent from the field, going 4-for-9 from long range and 9-for-17 from the line with 22 rebounds and six turnovers.
