Lady ‘Skins head to regionals

POCAHONTAS—The Lady Redskin basketball team earned a trip to the 4A-3 East Regional Tournament at Highland with their first round 49-35 win over Southside last Tuesday, Feb. 12, in the district tournament held at Pocahontas. They went on to fall to Brookland, who later upset Batesville in the championship, 41-35 on Thursday night.

The No. 3 seed Lady Redskins, now at 19-11 overall, will take on No. 2 seed Pulaski Academy tonight (Thursday) at 7:00 at Highland. With a win, they’ll play again Friday at 7:00 p.m.

Taking on Brookland in the second round Thursday night, Pocahontas would take the early lead and led 8-4 after one. Brookland, however, outscored the Lady `Skins 14-9 in the second quarter for an 18-17 lead at the half. The rest of the night continued to be close with Brookland outscoring Pocahontas 11-9 in the third and 12-9 in the fourth for the sixpoint victory. The Lady Redskins shot 11-of-33 from the field and 13-of-22 from the line with 28 rebounds and 12 turnovers while the Lady Bearcats shot 13-of-37 and 13-23 from the line with 18 rebounds and six turnovers.
