Did you Know? Sometimes adoptions can be quite easy when using a private attorney
Many people seem to think that adoptions are too difficult, too time consuming and too expensive to justify. Sometimes, though, under the right circumstances, an adoption can be inexpensive and easy when using a private attorney. Here are those circumstances.
Technically, anyone can adopt through a private attorney. The attorney and judge will do some digging around to make sure the child will be safe, but other than a potential “homestudy,” there are no statutory qualifications, background checks, or other red tape that delay or stop the process. Many private adoptions start out with the adopting parents acting as guardians for the child months or years beforehand. Private adoptions can also occur for newborns and babies if the parents consent. And when it comes to adopting babies, the baby must be born before any binding adoption paperwork is done. Any monies paid to the mother while she is pregnant, such as medical bills, groceries, rent, etc., are not legally binding towards an adoption. (Think Baby Mama featuring Tina Fey.)
