This and That ...
Dr. Jan Ziegler gave a great presentation at the Heritage Museum Lecture Series on Monday night. A nice crowd filled the annex room of the museum as many people in our area are interested in the historical events of the past.
I can hear the groans. A lecture? “We had enough lectures in school or college.”
Colleges typically hosts various lecture series throughout the year, but for our historical presentations maybe we need to change the name to “Randolph County History Series.”
The program Monday was about the black baseball team in Birdell - specifically as remembered by Roland McCarroll, who played sandlot baseball there in the 1930s and 1940s. Jan had interviewed Roland and his wife around 1978 and the lecture was the paper she wrote after that interview.
Roland was a pitcher and a very good one, at that.
