91st General Assembly now in session
The Arkansas State Legislature opened its 91st General Assembly on Monday with the usual ceremonies. Jeremy Gillam, R – Judsonia, was re-elected House Speaker and named committee leaders. Joe Jett, R – Success, whose district includes parts of the eastern section of Randolph County, was reappointed chairman of the House Revenue and Taxation Committee. Jett switched his party affiliation from Democrat to Republican last month. Jett did not have an opponent in the Nov. 8 General Election. Another switcher, Jeff Wardlaw, R, of Hermitage, was named chairman of the House Public Health, Welfare and Labor Committee. He also ran as a Democrat.
Also on Monday, The Senate also met to seat new members and formally ratify the earlier selection of Sen. Jonathan Dismang for another term as president pro tempore of the Senate.
