Virginia Lee Helms
Virginia Lee Helms, 79, of Doniphan, Mo., passed away February 5, 2021, in Cape Girardeau, Mo., after a brief illness. Born February 11, 1941, to Coy Emiline Doyle Chaplin and Jesse Chaplin in Illinois, she was affectionately known as ‘Jenny’ to her family and siblings.
Virginia married Vernon Ray ‘Ted’ Helms on October 31, 1959, and had five children, all of whom survive her: Robert Ray (Brenda) Helms, Brenda Lee (Don Walls) Helms, Larry Gene (Tanya) Helms, Terry Lynn (Hayley) Helms, and David Wayne (Kim) Helms.
She worked at Pro Golf in Pocahontas, Ark., for many years before joining American In-Home Agency, Doniphan, Mo., providing care for the elderly and disabled, where she worked until shortly before her death. She enjoyed cooking, bird watching and spending time with her family and grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her spouse, Vernon Helms, her parents, Jesse and Coy Chaplin, and her siblings, Hamer Chaplin, Helen Robinson, and Wanda Smith. She is survived by her lifelong friend of 21 years, Dick Hayes of Doniphan, Mo.; sisters, Bernice Klinefelter of Griggsville, Ill.; Karen Fowler of Pittsfield, Ill.; and Grace Coppess of Tipton, Iowa; and brothers, Billy Joe Chaplin of Hannibal, Mo., Lyndel Chaplin of Quincy, Ill., Jesse Chaplin of Quincy, Ill., and Dan Chaplin of St. Charles, Mo. She leaves behind many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends who will mourn her passing.
Visitation was from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m., Monday, February 8, 2021, in the McNabb Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral service followed at 2:00 p.m., with Gerald Fears officiating. Burial was in
Ingram Cemetery, Supply, Ark.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are her grandsons and honorary pallbearers are her granddaughters.
