Thomas Michael Vatsula

Thomas Michael Vatsula, 81, of Pocahontas, passed away on Tuesday, November 8, 2016, at the NEA Baptist Hospital in Jonesboro.

Thomas was born on October 11, 1935, in Ottawa, Illinois, to John Joseph and Ann Vercimak Vatsula.

Thomas was a loving husband, son, father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He loved woodworking, fishing, being outdoors, and the Chicago Bears. Thomas was a man of faith. He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Pocahontas, where he served as Eucharistic Minister.

Thomas is preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include, wife of thirty-three years, Oleta Josephine Long Vatsula of the home; sons, Stephen (Karen) Vatsula of Charlestown, Ind., Randall (Donna) Girard of Signal Hill, Calif., and Timothy (Jackie) Girard of Wenona, Ill.; daughters, Barbara Wampler, and Lisa Girard, both of Pocahontas; brother, John (Emily) Vatsulaof Lodi, Calif.; sister, Ann (Thomas) Modesett of Ottawa, Ill.; grandchildren, Justin (Kristin) Wampler of Seymour, Tenn., Heather (Jason) Price of Murietta, Calif., Allison (James) Sweeny of South Milwaukee, Wis., Amber (Kevin) Budny of Elk Horn, Wis., Amanda (Rob) Krocker of Wenona, Ill., Abby (Ronnie) Crow of Streator, Ill., Nicole (Josh) Darnley of Charlestown, Ind., Jeremy Girard of Signal Hill, Calif., Michael (Ashley) Vatsula of Charlestown, Ind., and Laycie (Hunter) McQuay of Pocahontas and 20 great-grandchildren.

Cremation has been chosen as the method of final disposition; no services have been scheduled.
