Robert “Bob” Gates

Robert “Bob” Gates, age 73 of Pocahontas, Ark., passed away on July 23, 2019, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro.

Mr. Gates was born August 18, 1945, in Fort Smith, Ark., to the late William Cleo Gates and Helen Marie Porter Gates.

He was also preceded in death by his wife Freda Gates, their son Robert “Gator” Gates, his brothers, Billy Eugene Gates, Sylvester Gates, Richard Gates, Thomas David Gates, Fred Gates and Charles Gates.

Robert enjoyed bowling and camping. Before his battle with COPD, he bowled at what was known as T-Wood’s Bowling Center several nights a week. He was known around the campgrounds for his famous campfire skillet breakfast. At home he made the best homemade biscuits and gravy. He enjoyed visiting with family and spending time with his grandkids.

He is survived by his daughters: Charlotte (Steve) Crow of Pocahontas, Chris (Ken) McLane of Everett, Wash.; sons Charlie Fillpot, Mark (Kris) Johnson of Wichita Kan.; brothers, George (Judith) Gates, William Gates, and Johnny Gates; sister, Pearl Gates-Ramsey; brothers-in-law, James (Judy) Kilpatrick, Eugene Kilpatrick; sisters-inlaw, Willa Koehn, Brenda Speer; grandchildren: Preston Crow, Payton Crow, Brayden Crow, Kendra England , Kenneth McLane, Krista McLane, Lacee Fillpot, Dustin Ashley, Austin Johnson, Cassie Johnson, Karen Andrews, Jesse Sanchez, Jordan Sanchez and 14 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be conducted on Saturday, August 3, 2019, from 2 – 4 p.m., at the First Free Will Baptist Church, 2835 Hwy 62 W. Pocahontas, Ark.
