Geneva Mae “Neer” Alphin
Geneva Mae “Neer” Alphin,71, of Pocahontas, passed away on Thursday, November 24, 2016, at the Batesville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Geneva was born onMay 20, 1945, in Attica, to Joeand Pauline Taylor Alphin.Geneva was a member ofthe Oak Grove Baptist Churchin Attica. She graduated from Pocahontas High School in 1964. Throughout her life, Geneva loved to display her gardening and cooking skills. She cooked in many are a restaurants throughout the course of her life. She managed restaurants for 38 years. Kelly’s Grill in Pocahontas and Wynne, the Tin Lizzie in Doniphan, and cafés in Rectorand Maynard, are just some of the places Geneva enjoyed working at. Geneva lovedusing her cooking skills as away to make people happy.Gardening was another hobbyof Geneva’s. Gardening wasa way to meet people. Sheloved working in her flower beds. Raising vegetables andplaying in the dirt broughtmany hours of pleasure to Geneva. Oftentimes, she would comment, “I have the prettiest gardens in Randolph County,” and she did. Geneva is preceded indeath by her parents; brother,William Alphin; sister, Wanda Blackwell; brothers-in-law,Bill Blackwell and Tommy Getson; sister-in-law, DulineAlphin; nephew, Scott Alphin;niece, Patty Blackwell.Geneva is survived by sisters, Betty Getson andDiane (Randy) Anis, bothof Pocahontas; brothers,Darrell (Reva) Alphin, Leon(Sue) Alphin, Gerry (Sharon)Alphin, and Randy (Donna)Alphin, all of Pocahontas;sister-in-law, Tommie JeanAlphin Mann, of Pocahontasand many nieces, nephews,cousins, and friends.Visitation and funeral service were both held at the Skaggs Church of Christ, on Saturday, November 26, 2016. Visitation was from 12:00noon – 2:00 p.m. A funeral service began at 2:00 p.m., with Gerald Fears and Jon Fears officiating. Burial followed in the Thomas Cemetery near Attica. Honored to serve as pallbearers were Barkley Anis, Dustin Alphin, Kenny Smith, Marty Smith, Heath Alphin, and Larry Higginbotham. Honorary pallbearers wereDavid Alphin, David Snyder, Tommy Hodge, Anthony Blackwell, Mike Blackwell,Chad Alphin, Chris Brown,Donnie Hampton, WayneSmith, Randy Getson, Randy Joe Anis, Cody Alphin, andTravis Alphin. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of the Batesville Nursingand Rehabilitation Center for their loving care.
