POCAHONTAS—Randy Byrd, 59, of Pocahontas, was killed Saturday, June 8, when his motorcycle suffered a tire blowout, causing him to lose control.
During Friday’s heavy rainfall event, a jeep was swept off the road and into a creek while crossing a low-water bridge. At around 2:00 Friday afternoon, the jeep was crossing the low-water bridge located at the intersection of Waddle Street and Jones Street when overtopping waters carried the jeep off the road and into Marr Creek. The swift waters carried the jeep south, down the creek, until it finally came to rest a block away underneath the Pyburn Street bridge where it got stuck. No injuries were reported in the incident.
