Randolph Countians honor war veterans on National POW/MIA Day

POCAHONTAS—The VFW Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 4556 paid special tribute to the prisoners of war and those missing in action on Friday at the Randolph County Courthouse.

The event was held in observance of National POW/MIA Recognition Day.

Established by an Act of Congress, the special day is formally observed each year on the third Friday of September, and is one of only six days that the POW/MIA Flag is flown.

Local Vietnam War veteran, Ed Cody, said when asked what the day means to him, is that it serves as a stark reminder of the sacrifices that were made.
