Pocahontas School Board evaluating overrowding issues
POCAHONTAS - Following Monday night’s monthly Pocahontas School Board meeting at the PJHS Library, the board issued a statement regarding the recent voting down of the millage increase request to help fund construction of a new high school.
“The Pocahontas School Board is disappointed for our students that the millage increase for the new high school did not pass on September 8,” the release stated. “We are in the process of evaluating the next steps in our plan to alleviate the overcrowding in our school. We will keep the public informed as we finalize our plans.”
The Board declined to go into further detail at the present time.
As more students move into the district, board member Gary Cole asked how much room was still available to accept more high school students. Pocahontas High School Principal Lesa Grooms stated there is still room to accept more, although space is limited.
