Martens talks importance of building new Pocahontas High School facility

Special election to be held September 8

POCAHONTAS – Pocahontas School District Superintendent Jerry Martens spoke at the July 22 Pocahontas Rotary Club meeting at Beverly’s Downtown Catering, detailing the district’s need for a new high school. The project would also include a new gymnasium and theater auditorium.

Patrons will vote on Sept. 8 in a special election whether or not to approve a 3.44 millage increase. If passed, the millage will go from its current rate of 32.81 to 36.25. This is still well below the state average, however, at 38.76.
