Large crowd attends fireworks show

POCAHONTAS—A large crowd gathered at Overlook Park Thursday night to enjoy the annual fireworks show hosted by the City of Pocahontas and Pocahontas Fire Department.

Pocahontas Mayor Keith Sutton said Monday morning he was extremely pleased with the turnout and expressed his appreciation to Pocahontas Fire Chief Darrel Kester and the Fire Department for an excellent job in putting the show together. The 24-minutes-worth of fireworks, which began shooting at 9 p.m., were boat-launched from Black River by local firemen stationed a little ways down river, just south of the park. Sutton said due to the amount of positive feedback received as well as several local donations, the City plans to grow the annual event. He said Monday they’ve already decided to add an additional 10 minutes of fireworks to next year’s show.
