Justices approve Future I-57 resolution
POCAHONTAS - During Thursday night’s monthly Randolph County Quorum Court meeting at the courthouse, justices passed a resolution supporting the completion of Future 1-57 and the proposed “Corridor 2.”
Three proposed corridors have been presented by the Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) for the project. Corridor 1 follows the existing Highway 67 but is regarded as the costliest option. Randolph County Judge David Jansen said in his personal opinion, Corridor 1 will not be picked. Jansen noted there are around 85 different structures, including homes and businesses, along the route that ARDOT would have to buy out, while there are only around eight on Corridor 2.
Corridor 2, which would come out of Walnut Ridge behind Williams Baptist University and then across Highway 304, would feature on and off ramps around four miles outside of Pocahontas. Corridor 3 follows Highway 34 out of Walnut Ridge, through O’Kean and Delaplaine. Each one of the corridors come out in Corning near the airport.
