Jansen: Black River Levee now paid off

POCAHONTAS - Following the record-setting flood disaster back in 2011, the County sought to “pick up the pieces” with major cleanup and repairs to the levee system and Randolph County Judge David Jansen stated last week that the funds borrowed for repairs to the levee have now been paid off and that the $3.40 tax is now removed for those landowners located in flood areas. “We started out in 2011 after the flood then and found out we had to get the levee fixed,” stated Jansen. “The levee board went in and did a 50-cents an acre maintenance tax on it and started collecting that in 2011.”
