Investigation supports money as motive in murder case

POCAHONTAS – Following the Aug. 6 guilty plea by Rebecca O’Donnell in the murder case of former Arkansas Sen. Linda Collins, newly released documents support the theory money was the motive for killing Collins.

According to Arkansas State Police (ASP) investigation documents obtained through the Freedom of Information Act, O’Donnell, now in the state prison for women at Newport, intentionally killed Collins by stabbing her numerous times and that she priorly had profited from selling gold she had stolen from Collins’ ex-husband Phil Smith.

Following O’Donnell’s guilty plea at her recent hearing, she admitted to intentionally killing Collins and attempting to hide the body. By pleading guilty, O’Donnell avoided the death penalty.
