Detention Center now housing female inmates
POCAHONTAS—The new Randolph County Detention Center moved in its first female prisoners Monday night following recent completion of the new 20-bed women’s unit and 40-bed men’s unit to bring the jail’s total inmate capacity to right at 100 from its original
The women’s unit is a one room facility with open barracks while the two new men’s units feature cells, which can each house four inmates. The two-story 32-bed men’s facility is expected to begin housing inmates over the next two weeks while sealing is completed on the floor and the second story safe guard system is installed. However, the new smaller eight-bed facility began housing inmates last week and currently serves to house sexual offenders or others who may need to be housed separate.
