Depot Museum of Transportation opens
POCAHONTAS— The new Randolph County Museum of Historical Transportation and Commerce at the old Frisco Depot officially opened Monday following final completion of all renovations and museum furnishings.
The museum is open on Mondays through Fridays from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and features numerous exhibits pertaining to Randolph County’s transportation and commerce history such as the rivers, historic roads and highways, railroad system, and numerous businesses located on the downtown square and in the surrounding communities throughout the county.
“What we’ve attempted to do here is ‘tell a story,’” said Dewrell Thompson, director of the Randolph County Tourism Association. “And it’s interchangeable. That’s the thing about museums. So many museums are the same thing day after day after day. And if you visit it, you’ll say, ‘I’ve been there, I’ve done that,’ and not go back. But everything is mobile in here. It can be changed out in a period of time and feature different exhibits.”
