County making progress on jail expansion

POCAHONTAS—Randolph County Judge David Jansen says the County is making progress on the new jail expansion project, which will add 40 additional male units and 20 female units at the current jail on Pace Road. The projected completion date is set for early 2019.

Jansen stated in Thursday night’s monthly quorum court meeting that they held a progress meeting with contractors last Tuesday, August 14, and that work was currently being performed on the electrical and plumbing aspects of the construction. Regarding the overall progress so far, Jansen said the site demo/clearing was 75 percent complete and the transformer switchover was 100 percent complete with the building now fully operating on the new transformer power. Jansen further noted the building pad for the male pod was 100 percent complete while the female was about 80 percent complete. He said the underground plumbing was expected to be finished by the end of the month.
