City closes on land for new shop facility
POCAHONTAS—Last week the City of Pocahontas closed on 10 acres of land on the northwest corner of Valley Drive and Apache in Pocahontas for a new city shop at a cost of $5,000 an acre.
Pocahontas Mayor Kary Story said Thursday that they’ve been searching for just the right piece of property for years as their current location on the corner of Rice and Bettis Street in downtown Pocahontas has experienced major flooding issues in the past. He said he hopes to begin site work this fall in clearing off much of the land. As long as the weather cooperates, he said the new shop should be up and operating by this winter, well before the spring flood season.
