POCAHONTAS- The Pocahontas City Council Budget Committee held a special meeting Tuesday, November 7, in which they discussed various cuts to the Pocahontas Aquatic Center staff that can be made in preparation for the final budget report, which is expected to be presented at the next Council meeting.
Pocahontas Mayor Kary Story spoke concerning cutbacks and the current lifeguard positions and noted that with the positions they have, referring to the outdoor portion of the aquatic center, in the summer time they have been staffing three people and the law says they only have to have one. By cutting back one lifeguard and cutting the hours to 185 as opposed to the current 200, the City can trim $50,000 or more off the upcoming budget.
