BRTC to implement CDL training program

PARAGOULD—The Black River Technical College Board of Trustees approved a motion to implement a four-week CDL training program during their quarterly board meeting held Thursday on the BRTC Paragould campus.

The program, proposed through BRTC Corporate and Community Education, is expected to be implemented this coming July at the Pocahontas campus.

According to a draft proposal developed by BRTC Director of Corporate and Community Education Patti Blaxton, for several years, local businesses have contacted BRTC urging them to provide a Commercial Driver’s License training program to serve local transportation needs. The proposal states that each contact has indicated a shortage of drivers, which has, in turn, had a negative impact on their business.

“The department is recognizing the need for commercial driver training, both in Arkansas and across the country, with an emphasis on producing safe, educated drivers,” states the draft.
