BRTC to host Black History Month events

Former Negro League professional baseball player to speak on Feb. 22
PARAGOULD- At the Black River Technical College Board of Trustees quarterly meeting on February 1, Vice President for Institutional Advancement Karen Liebhaber went over several upcoming events the college will be hosting including guest speaker Dennis Bittle who is noted as the youngest player ever in the American Negro Professional Baseball League.
 
Bittle will be speaking at RCDC (Randolph County Development Center) at BRTC on Thursday, February 22, at 10:00 a.m. as part of their Black History Series. Bittle played for the Chicago American Giants and is best known for making his debut in 1953 as the Giants’ pitcher when he was only 17 years old. Bittle would later suffer a serious ankle injury which ultimately ended his playing career but later went on to found Yesterday’s Negro League Baseball Players, LLC. Liebhaber said that several area schools will be busing in students for the event..
