Aldermen hear proposal for mosquito service renewal
POCAHONTAS—City Council aldermen tabled the approval of a proposal to renew the city’s mosquito spraying service from Vector Disease Control at an annual rate of $119,279 during Tuesday night’s regular monthly meeting at City Hall.
Aldermen approved a one-year contract with Vector last spring on a trial basis with funds, during that first year, taken out of the City economic development account. They planned to revisit a full proposal this year if satisfied. The annual rate of $119,279, which is locked in for five years, is the same amount the City approved and paid Vector last year for the first season. Aldermen would note they were very pleased overall with the aerial and ground service and certainly noticed a decrease in the local mosquito population. However, aldermen will be looking further into budget and will not approve anything right now as the renewal would raise city water customer bills from an estimated $1.50 a month to $3.50 a month.
