Aldermen approve rezoning request

Aldermen approve rezoning request

A public hearing preceded the Pocahontas City Council meeting Jan. 12, to hear an appeal on a request for rezoning property located on 1602 Thomasville.

The Cindy Young, potential owners of the property had been denied the zone change by the Planning and Zoning Committee previously because the proposal did not meet Arkansas Department of Transportation (ADOT) standards due to approach the property from the highway. The petitioners consulted with an engineer to make the necessary changes.

Paul Carr, with the highway department, confirmed the changes were in compliance with ARDOT.

Aldermen then approved a motion to overturn the decision of the Planning and Zoning Board because of new information that has been brought to light in plan and allow the city to rezone. Aldermen Nathan Camp abstained.
