Mary Lawana Hinkle 1934-2020

Mary Lawana Hinkle went home to our Heavenly Father on January 12, 2020 in Apopka FL. She was 85 years old and was born on June 12, 1934 in Scott County near Oran, Missouri to Emmett Otto & Dollie Mary Hinkle. She was one of 9 children growing up in Pocahontas, Arkansas with her siblings Lois (Darling), Layman Hinkle, Sanford Hinkle, Marilyn (Tyler), Louise (Wicker), Jeannie (Eagan), Delnora (Jones). She married at 17 years old to William Glenn Quirk moving to San Francisco CA, Chicago IL, Saranac Lake NY, Miami FL, Orlando FL and then to Anchorage Alaska in 1974. She later married Gordon DeWitt in 1989.

Mary Lawana was a Christian who will be remembered for her beautiful heart and soul; her love for God, family, and friends. She was so full of life, laughter, adventure, and was a great storyteller, singer and dancer. She loved to be surrounded by family singing gospel hymns and telling stories of her childhood. She was an outstanding seamstress sewing many wedding gowns and beautiful garments in her lifetime. Above all she was an amazing mother and grandmother. Her children and grandchildren brought so much joy to her life and her presence in our lives is irreplaceable. We continue to miss her everyday until the glorious day when we meet we meet again in heaven. She impacted the hearts and lives of everyone who knew her with her beautiful spirit.

Mary Lawana is survived 7 children; Terry Quirk (Donna) Anchorage AK, Della Parrott (Norman Sr) Anchorage AK, Timothy Quirk (Nancy) Orlando FL, Brenda Chudeusz (Thomas) Apopka FL, Michael Quirk (Mary Ann) Anchorage AK, Keenan Quirk (Erin) Anchorage AK, Kelly Parrott (Norman Jr) Littleton CO, 17 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, 4 sisters Louise Wicker, Jeannie Eagan, Delnora Jones, Loisell Tyler and many nieces & nephews.

Lawana was preceded in death by her infant daughter Lawana Lee Quirk, loving parents Emmett and Dolly, and her siblings Opal, Lois (Darling), Laymon, Sanford, Marilyn (Tyler), Gwendolyn, and several nephews and nieces she loved dearly.

A Memorial Service and Celebration of Life will be held for Mary Lawana Hinkle on March 26, 2022. Due to the pandemic, gathering has been postponed until now. She will be laid to rest alongside her parents, siblings, and family members. Graveside service will be held on Saturday March 26, 2022 at 11am at Chesser Cemetery 2951 Hwy 166 South, Pocahontas, AR with a luncheon immediately following at Church of Jesus Christ 2252 Hwy 166 South, Pocahontas Arkansas.
