Mary Hurn

Mary Douglas Hurn (Dunn), born on June 19, 1933, in Birdell, Arkansas, to Mary Petty John and Douglas Dunn, was an exceptional woman admired for her selflessness, devotion, and affection by everyone lucky enough to have known her. Growing up on her family’s farm, she learned the values of hard work, dedication, and resilience from a young age.
During high school, Mary met the love of her life, Jetty Bill Hurn, and often humorously claimed that she won his heart through his stomach, a statement all the more believable given her excellent cooking skills. Together, Mary and Bill welcomed a daughter, a son, four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren into their world, always cherishing and promoting their shared sense of adventure, whether traveling by airplane or motorcycle.
Mary was the bedrock of her family, always prioritizing the needs of her loved ones above her own. She consistently stressed the importance of education, joy, happiness, and togetherness to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Blessed with a life full of love, compassion, and adventure, Mary formed many meaningful, lifelong relationships, from her earliest with her sister Sara to her final moments with her most recent closest friend, who was there until the end.
Throughout her life, Mary never stopped smiling, expressing her love for the Lord, and offering care and encouragement to others. She was an extraordinarily selfless and devoted woman, one whose legacy cannot be adequately captured in words.
Mary was preceded by her mother and father; husband Jetty Bill Hurn; daughter Barbara Forrest and brotherin- law AJ Crabtree and survived by her sister, Sara Crabtree; son and daughter-in-law Doug and Michelle Hurn; grandson and spouse, Randy and Angela Hurn; granddaughters Brandy Cooke and Bonnie Tinsley; granddaughter and spouse, Lisa and JD Hilzendager; and greatgrandchildren Grant and Collin Hurn, Geoffrey Arvesen and Taylor and John Michael Hilzendager.
