The Veteran’s Day ceremony, normally conducted on November 11 each year at the Randolph County Courthouse sponsored by the VFW Post 4556 and American Legion Post 6 will regrettably be cancelled this year due to the COVID-19 virus.
The Pocahontas Kiwanis Club held the installation of club officers who will serve October 2020 through September 2021. The club officers were installed by District Lieutenant Governor, Lyndal Waits. Mr. Waits gave each officer a description of their duties to perform in the upcoming year. Officers installed for 2020-2021 are President Pat Johnson, Treasurer Maria Kovak, Secretary Angie Goodman, President-Elect Maxaline Grimsley, and Past-President Clarence Ungerank. Buddy and Brandy Luker of Cherokee Village announce the engagement and upcoming wedding of their daughter, Marina Jo Luker of Cherokee Village to Chase Evan King of Elm Store, son of Steven King and the late Sally King of Elm Store.
Marie Lindsey of Randolph Co. Home recently celebrated her 104th Birthday on October 1st. She has lived through the Spanish flu, the great depression, first man on the moon, 19th amendment give women right to vote, first air flights, SEVERAL war world wars, Alaska and Hawaii becoming a state, atomic bomb, Fair Labors Act passed (setting the minimum wage to 25 cents an hour), 26 Presidential elections, Multiple bouts of pneumonia and even COVID-19. To say she is one tough lady would be an nderstatement. She is spunky, witty and an anchor for our family. Several of her family members were outside the window. Thanks to all the staff for making her day enjoyable. She has three sons, one daughter, and two step sons. Jerry (Betty Lindsey and Richard Lindsey of Pocahontas Charles Lindsey of Ashdown, Donna Lindsey Higgins of Cabot, and the late Doyle Lindsey and Bill Lindsey. Several grandchildren, great and great great grandchildren.
Pocahontas native Kevin Riney took 2nd place in the Toyota Plains Division Fishing League Worldwide (FLW) Bass Tournament on Lake Dardanelle in Russellville, AR on Sept. 19.
