JULIANNE HORNYAK

SALLEE (JULIE) Jesus tapped Julianne Hornyak Sallee (Julie) on the shoulder on Christmas Eve 2023 and must have said “come with Me to My party” and she quietly went to heaven. An interment of ashes will be held at 1:00 p.m. on November 16, 2024, at Masonic Cemetery in Pocahontas. Julie was born on December 7, 1937, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Fred M. and Helen Hornyak. She moved to Pocahontas in 1976 and was married to Jerry Sallee. She eventually moved to Florida in 2014. Julie was a member of the First United Methodist Church, having served as the office secretary and the recording secretary for the Administrative Council for First UMC, and was a member of the Chancel Choir until 1984. She was instrumental in forming a new Sunday School class in 1995, “New Beginnings.” Julie became a member of the GFWC Pocahontas Women’s Club in 1976 and served through 2003 in various capacities including club president (1978-1984) and then state president (1998-2000). Her activities with the GFWC culminated as chairman for the GFWC International Convention held in Little Rock in 2003. She additionally worked with the Boy Scouts of America at Camp Cedar Valley as Business Manager from 1991-1993 along with her husband, Jerry, and received the United Methodist Church and Boy Scouts of America God and Service Recognition Award. Julie was predeceased by her husband, Jerry, and is survived by her children, Jean King, Edward King (Elizabeth); 4 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
