Jimmy Atkins

Jimmy David Atkins, 73 of Pocahontas, Arkansas, passed away on Thursday, December 8, 2022, at his home. Jimmy was born on October 26, 1949, in Pocahontas, Arkansas to Robert and Nellie Wilson Atkins.

On May 9, 1976, Jim married the love of his life Kay. They were married for 43 years and joined back together three years later to the day. Jim was a loving husband, father, son, PAPA, brother, and known to everyone as “Uncle Jim.” He was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy. Jim was known for his hugs, kisses, and man of God that would pray for you anywhere. If he saw, you hurting he was hurting and crying with you. He knew when to give you one of his famous big hugs because he had the BIGGEST hearts known to man. He is also known as the only person who could sing “There is a Hole in the Bottom of Sea.”

Jim is preceded in death by his wife Kay Burgess Atkins, his parents Robert and Nellie Atkins, brother Charles Leroy Atkins, and Cecil Atkins; brother-in-laws Arless Beck and James Rinehart; sister-in-law JoAnn Atkins; niece Angie Kee; nephew Michael Atkins.

Jim is survived by his son Robert (Yolanda) Atkins, of the home; daughter Tammy (Dross) Hunter of Fort Worth, Texas; adopted son Tracy (Amber) Chesser, of Maynard; seven grandchildren whom he loved with all his heart and they all loved their Papa, Alexis Williams, Tanner (Cassie) Atkins, Madyson Williams, Dawson Goins, Kaycie Atkins, Morgan Williams; four great-grandchildren, Asher Williams, Tyler Atkins, Oaklyee Seehaver and Yulani Rodriguez: one brother, Bob Atkins of Paris, TN; three sisters, Mary Beck of Salem, MO, Beverly (Bill) Hand of Supply and Bonnie Rinehart of Cedar Hill, MO; and many nephews and nieces.

Honored to carry Jimmy to his earthly resting place are Brian Junkersfeld, Jeremy Noles, Tracy Chesser, Chris Tyler, Darryl Kee, Michael Gifford, Tony Smith, and Brent Kee Honorary pallbearers Mark Atkins and Todd Griffin.
