Around the Kitchen Table with Nanny

Nanny, or as many know her, Virginia Stevens, is a beloved figure in our community, renowned for her culinary prowess and warm-hearted nature. However, Nanny is under the weather this week and could not construct her weekly recipe column. So, alas, we at the Star Herald decided to take our culinary talents to words and paper.

Confessions of a Constitutionalist

While doing some research for my article this time, and not seeing much in the way of current events, I looked at this month in history. In general, I like learning about when things happened as much as the event itself, so this is always a win to me. May being my own birthday month, I thought that might be fun and down the rabbit hole I went! Little did I know that what I would find would send me on quite the journey.

Speaking French

As the sun set on another workweek, I found myself longing for a much-needed break. Little did I know that Memorial Day weekend would turn out to be one for the books, filled with unexpected adventures, chance encounters and delightful surprises.

Life is a Journey

Though it is officially spring, the weather just keeps TEASING and MOCKING us! And it is still cold enough we have our stove on frequently. Yes, yes I am still wearing my heavy socks and winter PJ’S with these temps, I may be in them all summer at this rate. When we catch some rare warm hours we are out doing a bit of yard work. Such as picking up limbs and raking the last of the leaves. The grandson helped me clean out the storage shed actually he mostly did it all, as I pointed and gave directions! Have to say, it is arranged so much better now. We also stacked and organized some things making it easier to find everything. He added lots of long screws in the 2X4 framework inside the building, and we put them to good use by hanging as many things as we could from them. Such as chairs, and stools I dearly hope the building doesn’t fall in on us now. We took some old chairs to the curb (collecting old chairs is one of my weaknesses) along with other of our packrat junk, for pick up in the yearly city-wide trash pickup. Thank goodness they do this yearly, lest we all disappear under all the junk we collect. It felt good to stand inside and be able to locate what we were looking for with ease, at least for a year.

Mark on Markets with Mark Holt

For the week ending May 12th, our fake account balance stands at $136,342.88. We continue to look for good trade setups, and it is still difficult for me to hold my powder dry if I cannot find an attractive setup. I have really been surprised how strong the urge is to put on a trade even if the chart does not support an entry. While I cannot experience anyone else’s trading experiences, I would wager this dilemma is shared by most. It takes an extraordinary amount of discipline and experience to overcome poor trading habits. I freely admit that I am still working on correcting many of my bad habits and take comfort in knowing the journey is better than the destination. An interesting experience happened to me during this week that I would like to share with our readers. I have been writing these articles for over a year now and have tried to grow my online and social media presence during the same time. The internet is full of investment gurus, and I find most of them appalling, but also recognize the need to get our message and methods out into the public in order to engage in dialog with real people and test our meddle against the masses. Naturally, traders gravitate towards traders, just as sports fans are drawn to other sports fans. I began following some traders on Twitter and would respond or retweet posts I thought were of merit.
