Senior Redskins Lose to Blytheville Chickasaws 64-36

In a Tuesday night game played at Pocahontas High School Gymnasium the Pocahontas Senior Boys Redskins lost to the Blytheville Chickasaws 64-36. Blytheville has a 21-2 overall record, a 12-0 conference record and clinched the 4A-3 conference with this game. The Chickasaws started strong and led 16-8 at end of first quarter. Blytheville continued their dominance and led 31-18 at the half and 59-39 at the end of 3rd quarter. The game ended with Blytheville winning 64-36.

Junior Redskins Defeat Westside Junior Warriors 60-50 in District

In a Monday night game played in the district tournament at Trumann High School Gymnasium at Trumann the Pocahontas Junior Redskins beat Westside Junior Warriors 60-50. Redskins led 16-8 at the end of the first quarter and at the half 32-18. Westside outscored the Junior Redskins 32-28 in the last half but it was not enough to overcome Pocahontas halftime lead. Final score was 60-50 in favor of Pocahontas.

Junior Blytheville Chickasaws Defeat Junior Redskins 43-40

In a Tuesday night game played at Pocahontas High School Gymnasium the Pocahontas Junior Boys Redskins lost to the Junior Blytheville Chickasaws 43-40. Junior Chickasaws started out strong and led at the end of the first quarter 20-14. The Chickasaws increased their lead to 20-14 at the half. The third quarter was a duplicate of the second with Blytheville leading 36-26 at the end of the quarter. The Junior Redskins battled to overcame the 10-point lead and trimmed the Chickasaws lead to 42-40 with less than a minute remaining. Blytheville maintained ball control and sank a free shot to win 43-40.

Senior Redskins Edge Valley View Blazers 39-38 Avenge Earlier Overtime Loss

In a Friday night January 28, 2022 game the Pocahontas Senior Boys Redskins beat the Valley View Blazers 39-38 at Valley View. In the January 12th game in Pocahontas Valley View won in overtime 43-40. The game was characterized by poor shooting and strong defense by both teams. Pocahontas shot 29% from the field, 10% from 3-point line and 44% from the charity stripe. Pocahontas had been averaging 54 points a game The Blazers edged the Redskins by shooting 30% from the field, 14% from the 3-point line, and 83% from the free throw line. Because of the high number of missed shots both teams had very high total in rebounds with Valley View having 40 and Pocahontas 39. Both teams were very cold the first quarter with the score being 8-5 in favor of the Redskins as the quarter ended. Teams exchanged the lead in the second quarter with the Redskins leading 19-17 halftime.

Luke Baltz Scores 43 to Lead Junior Redskins to Double Overtime Win Over Westside Warriors 54-48

In a Tuesday night game played at Pocahontas High School Gymnasium in Pocahontas the Pocahontas Junior Boys Redskins beat Westside Junior Boys Warriors 54-48. The game was a team effort for both sides but dominated by two very talented junior boys, Luke Baltz led Pocahontas with 43 points and Honeycutt led Valley View with 30. Both teams started out slowly in the first quarter with few goals. Junior Warriors scored first, tied by Junior Reskins and Redskins built lead to 13-7 at the end of the first quarter. Score was back and forth the second quarter with game being tied at half 17-17. The third quarter was a duplicate of the second with Westside leading 26-24 at the end of the quarter. Pocahontas tied the game 26-26 with 5:26 in the 4th quarter. The game was back and forth with Luke Baltz and Honeycutt trading baskets resulting in a tie at the end of regulation 39-39 with Honeycutt sinking the tying three at the buzzer. Pocahontas fell behind 40-45 in the first overtime but rallied as the Warriors fouled. Baltz sank a jumper with 7 seconds left to cut the lead to one, 44-45. Warriors Honeycutt fouled Baltz as time expired. Luke Baltz made a free throw to tie the game 45-45 forcing into second overtime. In the second overtime Pocahontas jumped out ahead 47-45. The Warriors tied the game 48-48, Pocahontas went ahead 49-48 to increase the lead to 54-48 to claim victory. Luke Baltz led the scoring attack with 43 points, D. J. Coffey with 9 and Carter Couch with 2. Honeycutt led Westside with 30 points.
