Senior Redskins Lose to Blytheville Chickasaws 84-56 in Semifinals of District Tournament

In a Thursday night game played at Bearcat Arena at Brookland High School in the 4A-3 District Tournament the Pocahontas Senior Boys Redskins lost to the Blytheville Chickasaws 84-56. Blytheville, the conference champion, is seeded number one in the tournament and ranked in the top five teams in Arkansas in Class 4A. The Chickasaws started strong and led 20-11 at end of first quarter. Blytheville continued their dominance and led 38-20 at the half and 61-40 at the end of 3rd quarter. The game ended with Blytheville winning 84-56.

Senior Redskins Defeat Southside Southerners 57-43 in District Tournament

In a Tuesday night game played at Bearcat Arena at Brookland in the 4A-3 District Tournament the Pocahontas Senior Boys Redskins beat the Southside Southerners 57-43. Southside started out strong and led most of the first quarter and finished with a lead of 13-12 at the end of the quarter. The score was back and forth in the second quarter with both teams swapping the lead and Redskins trailing at halftime 26-24.

Senior Redskins Lose to Brookland Bearcats 44-43 in Final Home Game

In a Wednesday night game played at Schoonover Field House the Senior Boys Redskins lost to the Brookland Bearcats in a critical 4A-3 conference game 44-43. The first half was dominated by tight defense with Brookland leading 12-9 at end of first quarter and 25-22 at the half. The Bearcats scored the first two points of the third quarter and led at the end of the quarter 36-34. Pocahontas tied the game 38-38 with 6:37 left in the fourth quarter. The remainder of the game was characterized by good defense and careful shot selection by both teams. Brookland triumphed winning the game 44-43. The Bearcats outshot the Redskins by shooting 46% from the field to Pocahontas’s 32%. Both teams were 28% on 3-point attempts. The Redskins were 71% and Brookland 45% from the charity stripe. The Redskins also led in rebounds 21-20. Mason Baltz led the Redskins with 14 points-9 rebounds-4 assists, followed by Ely Baltz with 9 points-6 rebounds-1 assist, Harrison Carter 8 points-6 rebounds-3 assists, Bryce Mason 8 points-1 rebound, 1 assist, Justin DeJournett 4 points-5 rebounds, and Will Mason-3 rebounds-1 assist. Adam Perry also had several minutes of playing time. York led Brookland with 15 points

Junior Redskins End Season With Loss to Highland Junior Rebels in District Tournament 55-36

In a game played last Thursday night at the Trumann Gymnasium in the district tournament Highland Junior Rebels trounced the Pocahontas Junior Redskins 55-36. Highland started out with outstanding shooting to lead 19-10 at end of first quarter. Highland increased the lead at halftime to 38-18. Pocahontas outscored Highland 18-17 in the second half but could not overcome the large halftime lead. Final score was 55-36 with all players on both teams getting playing time in the last few minutes of the game

Senior Redskins Come From Behind in 4th Quarter to Beat Truman Wildcats 52-49

In a Saturday afternoon game held at the Trumann Gymnasium in Trumann the Pocahontas Senior Boys Redskins won the game 52-49 by outscoring Trumann 19-5 in the last quarter. Trumann Wildcat’s started off strong leading 9-4 at the end of first quarter. The Redskins had a surge in the second quarter outscoring Trumann 15-12 with Trumann leading at half 21-19. The third quarter was all Trumann with the Wildcat outscoring the Redskins 23-14 and leading at end of quarter 44 to 33. In the fourth quarter the Redskins shook off the effects of the tough Friday night game at Westside and outscored Trumann 19-5 to win the game 52-49. Mason Baltz led the Redskins with 24 points-3 rebounds-4 assists, Justin DeJournett followed with 10 points-6 rebounds, Eli Baltz 8 points-6 rebounds, Bryce Mason 5 points -1 rebounds-5 assists, Harrison Carter 3 points-1 rebound-1 assist, Adam Perry with 2 points, and Will Mason with one rebound and one assist. Honeycutt led the Warriors with 14 points.
