The spring session for the Dolphins Swim Team is shorter this year. It is from now until May 3rd. Tryouts are every night this week from 6:30-7:15pm at the Pocahontas Aquatic Center on Geneva Drive. In a Friday night game played at Pocahontas School Baseball Field the Senior Boys Redskins beat the Hillcrest Screamin’ Eagles from Strawberry 15-5. Hillcrest scored four runs in the first inning but the Redskins kept adding runs until the game was called at the end of the sixth inning because of the ten-run rule and won 15-5.

The Maynard Archery teams, made up of 72 archers, recently competed in the 4A District Regional Archery Tournament. The tournament was held virtually at Maynard Elementary School against Brookland, Piggott, GCT, EPC, Hillcrest,Marmaduke, Oak Grove, Paragould, Riverside, Valley View, and Westside. Our Elementary and Middle School teams finished 4th and our High School teams placed 6th.
And that’s a wrap… The Pocahontas Redskins ended their 2021-2022 basketball season with a 74-46 loss to Mills University in the 4A Regional Tournament at Highland High School. Mason Baltz, season score leader, is pictured taking the ball to the hoop. Baltz finished the game with 19 points, three rebounds and three assists.
In a Saturday night game played at A. L. Hutson Arena at Highland High School in the 4A East Regional Tournament the Pocahontas Senior Boys Redskins lost to the Mills University Studies Comets 73-46. Mills, the 4A-5 conference champion, is ranked in the top five teams in Arkansas in Class 4A. The Comets started strong and led 18-7 at end of the first quarter. Mills continued their dominance and led 44-18 at the half. The Redskins started with a 11-2 run at the beginning of the third quarter and outscored the Comets 16-13 in the quarter. Mills outscored the Redskins 16-12 in the last quarter and won 73-46. Mason Baltz led the Redskins with 19 points-3 rebounds-3 assists. Justin DeJournett followed with 8 points-6 rebounds-1 assist, Bryce Mason 7 points-3 rebounds-2 assists, Harrison Carter 6 points-5 rebounds, Ely Baltz 3 points-5 rebounds, Zayden Foster 2 points, Will Mason 1 point-3 rebounds-1 assist and Chet Orrick 1 rebound. Adam Perry, Clay Liebhaber, Canyon Hardin, and Jaron Lindquist also saw playing time for the Redskins. Jaylon Ento led Mills with 15 points.
The Pocahontas High School Quiz Bowl team took first place on Wednesday at the Northeast Arkansas Education Cooperative annual tournament. Eight teams from area schools participated. Team members are: Matthew McCallister (team captain), Hayden Mahan, Parker Papi, Maya Saala, Bennett Wardlow, Kenan Ogden, and Makenzie Massey.
