This fall I will be covering Sloan Hendrix Greyhound basketball teams. Later, we will add columns on Senior Girls Softball and Senior Boys Baseball. The first column is introducing coaches, team makeup, and the schedule for the basketball teams. We will have weekly updates on games played and occasionally a tidbit thrown on Sloan Hendrix Greyhound history.
The Pocahontas Redskins traveled to the Gosnell Pirates at J. W.
The Pocahontas Junior Redskins lost to conference rival Gosnell Pirates 14-0 on September 29 at Schoonover Field. The Pirates jumped out to 14-0 lead in the first quarter. Even though the Redskins had several chances to score, they could not overcome the Gosnell lead and lost 140.
The Pocahontas Redskins travel to Poinsett County this week, taking on the Harrisburg Hornets in the second contest of their mid-season, three-game road swing. After a dominating 35-8 win last week over Gosnell, the Redskins are currently tied with Blytheville and Trumann for first place atop the 3-4A conference.
In the 4A-3 conference, The Pocahontas Redskins went into district tournament with 4 players ranked. In boys’ singles, Logan Earley (Sr) was 5th out of 11; in girls’ singles, Brooklyne Smith (Jr) was 3rd out of 12; in girls’ doubles, Carli Chester & Brynnison Smith (sophomores) ranked 4th of 11 teams.
Pocahontas hosted 4A Conference rival Rivercrest Colts at Schoonover Stadium on September 23 in the Soncom High School Game of Week. The Redskins scored early and maintained the lead throughout the game.
With last week’s takedown of the Rivercrest Colts, the Pocahontas Redskins staked their claim as one of the best teams in the 3-4A conference. They’ll have another chance to prove it this week, as they travel to Mississippi County to take on the Gosnell Pirates.

The Pocahontas Junior Redskins travelled to Cortez Kennedy Field for a conference game against the Rivercrest Colts on September 22. Pocahontas scored on a Spencer James run and a Colton Brown 2-point conversion to lead 8-0 at end of the first quarter.
