Sloan-Hendrix Basketball
The week of December 26-31 was a remarkable one in the history of Sloan-Hendrix Basketball. The Greyhounds have a record of outstanding basketball teams and have always excelled in being competitive with continuous excellence in sportsmanship. Under the guidance of legendary coach Bill McCurley and Jeff Rider, senior girls’ teams have advanced to the finals of the state basketball tournament. Other girls’ and boys’ teams have won many County, District and Williams Baptist Tournament titles and participated in the NEA Tournament in Jonesboro numerous times over the years. However, in my knowledge of Sloan-Hendrix basketball for the past 70 years I cannot recall both teams have this much success in the same week. The Lady Greyhounds started the week before by beating Bay in a first-round game in the NEA Division I Tournament. They continued their winning streak by defeating second seeded Rector in a second-round game and sixth seeded Cave City in a semifinal game to advance to the finals against the fifth seeded Rivercrest Colts.
