Sloan-Hendrix Jr High teams place in tournament

Both Sloan-Hendrix Greyhound Junior Teams competed in the Hillcrest Junior Invitational Tournament held at Lynn last week. The Junior Boys led by Hudson Rorex’s 29 points won the tournament with 5417 victory over the Cedar Ridge Junior Timberwolves in the finals. The Junior Boys led 21-6 at end of 1st quarter and 33-11 at the half. Rorex led the Greyhounds in scoring with 29 points, followed by Dallas Durham-5 points, Corey Sullens-4 points, Wyatt Ring Colton Sexton, and Remington Vandergriff-2 points each. To reach the finals they defeated Mammoth Springs earlier in the week and Hillcrest Screaming Eagles 50-15. Against Hillcrest Sloan-Hendrix led 13-5 at end of 1st quarter and 29-7 at the half. Hudson Rorex with 15 points led the Junior Greyhounds, Dallas Durham followed with 14 points, Cole Mc-Call-7 points, Colton and Brandon Truitt- 6 points each, and Kyler Matthews-2 points. The Greyhound Junior Girls were defeated 3229 in only their second loss of the season in the finals by the Salem Junior Lady Greyhounds. Emery Spence led in scoring with 12 points, followed by Kaylee Jines, Alexis Davis, and Hayden Matheny with 5 points each, and Rylee Brown with 2 points. Earlier in the week to reach the finals the Juniors beat Crowley Ridge Academy 54-29 and Mammoth Springs 40-20. In the Mammoth Spring game Kaylee Jines led the Lady Junior Greyhounds in scoring with 12 points, followed by Hayden Matheny-11 points, Emery Spence-9 points, Alexis Davis- 6 points, and Brianna Cox-2 points.

Swim Team winter tryouts

The winter session for the Dolphins Swim Team begins this Friday. It is from now until April 6th. Tryouts are this Friday, January 20th from 5:006:30. Next week they are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday from 5:00-6:30. Tryouts are open to swimmers of all levels between the ages of 5 to 18 and you do not need to schedule a specific time. Please join us at the Pocahontas Aquatic Center on Geneva Drive to learn more about the swim team.

Sloan-Hendrix Basketball

The Sloan-Hendrix basketball teams traveled to Mt. Vernon-Enola Warhawks for three conference games last week. The Junior Boys Hounds defeated the Junior Boys Warhawks 54-26. Sloan-Hendrix led 10-3 at end of the first quarter and 22-15 at the half. The Junior Hounds dominated the last half outscoring the Warhawks 32-11 to win the game 54-26. Hudson Rorex led in scoring with 25 points followed by Dallas Durham with 11 points, Cole McCall had 4 points, Corey Sullens contributed 6 points, Hayden Moore and Brandin Truitt had 3 points each and Wyatt Mitchell threw in 2 points.

Redskins lose to Warriors, Rebels

In a Friday night conference game played at Wear Schoonover Fieldhouse the Pocahontas Senior Boys Redskins were defeated by Westside Warriors 57-53. The Warriors led 15-4 at end of the first quarter and 34-17 at the half and continued with a 47-29 at end of the third quarter. The Redskins caught fire in the fourth quarter outscoring the Warriors 24-10 but could not overcome the early lead and lost 57-53. Harrison Carter and Bryce Mason shared the scoring lead with 14 points each. DJ Coffey added 12 points, Colby Mahon had 8 points, and Connor Baker contributed 5 points.

Lady Redskin Basketball update

The Pocahontas Lady Senior Redskins were defeated by the Lady Blytheville Chickasaws 45-43 in a contested conference game held at Wear Schoonover Fieldhouse on Tuesday night. The Lady Chickasaws led 11-9 at end of the first quarter and 21-17 at halftime. Blytheville increased the lead to 39-29 at end of the third quarter. The Lady Redskins outscored Blytheville 14-6 in the fourth quarter but the Chickasaws held on to squeak by with a 4543 win. Isabella Jansen led the Lady Redskins in scoring with 18 points, 8 rebounds, 1 assist and 2 steals, followed by Jordyn Priest with 8 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal and 1 block, Blair Baxley threw in 6 points and 2 rebounds, Lauren Berger had 4 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal, Abby Liebhaber had 3 points, 1 rebound and 1 assist, Abby Alphin had 2 points, 1 rebound, 1 assist and 3 blocks, Paige Massey had 2 points, 3 rebounds and 2 steals, Gracie Martin grabbed 2 rebounds, 1 steal and 1 block and Lauren Chester had 1 block.

Redskins fall to Blytheville, Forrest City and Brookland

The Pocahontas Senior Redskins traveled to Blytheville to play the Blytheville Chickasaws (16-0) in a Tuesday night conference game. The Chickasaws led 16-7 at the end of the first quarter and 33-11 at the half and won the game 57-29. Harrison Carter led the Redskins with 17 points, 8 rebounds, 3 steals and 1 blocked shot, followed by DJ Coffey with 6 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals, Clay Liebhaber had 4 points, 1 rebounds and 1 steal, Nate Major contributed 2 points, Will Mason grabbed 6 rebounds and had 1 assist, Tid Kios contributed 3 rebounds, 1 assist and a steal and Jaron Lindquist had 1 assist. Ryker Fletcher, Smith Sparks, Canyon Hardin, Karsyn Weitkamp, and Ricky Regina also played in the game.

The Sloan-Hendrix 10th seeded Lady Senior Greyhounds remarkable road to the NEA Tournament Championship was derailed on Wednesday night in the finals by the 5th seeded Lady Rivercrest Colts 57-41. The Lady Greyhounds had defeated the 2nd seeded Rector Cougars 59-55 and the 6th seeded Cave City Cavewomen 5149 to reach the finals. Makayla Gosha led the Greyhounds in scoring with 14 points, followed by Katelyn Graddy with 9 points, Laney Horton had 8 points, Carley Morgan contributed 6 points, and Cadee Johnson had 4 points. Makayla Gosha and Katelyn Graddy were honored by being chosen for the All-Tournament Team.
