Sloan-Hendrix Greyhounds fall in State 2ATournament

In a thrilling game that went into overtime, the Lavaca Golden Arrows defeated the Sloan-Hendrix Senior Boys Greyhounds 58-56 in the State 2A Tournament first round game held at Rector. The #1 team in the 2A-4 District, Lavaca had a 31-4 record and had won both their District and Regional Championships. The Greyhounds had an outstanding season, finishing with a 32-6 record and winning the 2A-2 Conference, as well as the 2A-2 District Tournament.

PHS Baseball outlook

The Pocahontas Redskins baseball team is ready to take the field this season with hopes of improving on their 10-14 record from last year and returning to the regional tournament where their season ended. Coach Anthony Noftsgar believes that the team’s strength this year will be their pitching and experience.

Redskin Basketball

The Pocahontas Redskins Senior Boys basketball team finished their season with a second- round loss to the Southside Southerners in the 4A-3 District Tournament at Trumann. Despite the loss, the Redskins displayed their trademark resilience, fighting an uphill battle throughout the game. The Southerners started hot and quickly built a sizable lead, which the Redskins were unable to overcome, resulting in a 73-62 defeat.

Sloan-Hendrix Basketball update

The #1 seeded Sloan-Hendrix Senior Boys Greyhounds claimed the championship title of the District 2A-2 Tournament, defeating the #2 seeded Marshall Bobcats 72-62 in a hard-fought game. The contest was held at White County Central, and the Greyhounds got off to a strong start, leading 18-8 at the end of the 1st quarter.

Pocahontas Redskin Basketball

The Pocahontas Redskins completed their conference play and finished regular season with three games last week. They started the week at Wear Schoonover Fieldhouse on Tuesday night against the number nine ranked Brookland Bearcats. The Bearcats won on a controversial tip-in in at the buzzer 49-47.

The Good Stuff

For this week’s column, I’d originally planned to talk about the Razorback basketball team’s recent uptick and prospects for the remainder of the year. Lots of good news and cause for optimism to be found: A three- game win streak Blowout of Kentucky AT Rupp Arena Devo Davis playing like he actually has half a brain Return of Nick Smith, Jr. to the lineup A slate of four winnable games in a row before taking on Alabama and Tennessee to end the regular season And THEN the Mississippi State clunker happened. And just like that all my cause for optimism was shot.
