The Keith Sutton Five Rivers Shooting Complex is announcing new hours being September 1. The complex will be open Wednesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and will be closed on Monday and Tuesday.

Mr. Ricky Grisham, a Sloan-Hendrix teacher, recently was recognized for his exceptional performance in Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) at a luncheon held in Little Rock. This award recognizes six areas: on time graduation, employment rate, full-time employment rate, total fulltime positive outcomes, further education rate and connectivity rate.
The Black Rock Youth Soccer league is now taking signups for their fall season. The registration fee is $20. The league is open to ages four through the eighth grade. Registration forms are available at city hall in Black Rock, and will be sent home with children from school. Checks can be made payable to the Black Rock Entertainment Committee. You can mail registrations forms and fee to 491 Elm Street, Black Rock, AR 72415. There is a drop box for after hours. If you have a business and would like to sponsor a team, the cost to sponsor is $150 and your business name will be printed on each team jersey. Deadline to enter is August 29 with games beginning September 20.
Pocahontas swimmer Cari King won two ribbons at the National Senior Games in DesMoines, Iowa, for placing sixth in the 200-yard Individual Medley and eighth in the 50-yard Butterfly. The Senior Games, also known as the Senior Olympics, take place yearly at the state level and every two years at the national level. While the state games are open to all athletes over 50, one must qualify for the national games. Athletes can qualify by either placing in the top three finishers at their state or scoring a qualifying time at a sanctioned event.
The public is cordially invited to the Powhatan Community Center open house on Aug. 22 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. to see the updates that were made to the building. Refreshments will be served. The address is 2225 Highway 117 Spur in Powhatan.
Sloan-Hendrix varsity baseball team will hold tryouts. This is mandatory for all 9-12 grade students who plan to play spring baseball. Tryouts will be held Wednesday, Aug. 20 and Friday, Aug. 22 after school on the new school baseball field. Requirements are that each student must have a current physical on file before tryouts begin. Players must be present to be considered for this year’s team.
