Football reigns supreme in the landscape of American professional sports, and that popularity also is prevalent in boys’ scholastic athletics. Data from the National Federation of State High School Associations indicates that football is the most popular boys high school sport in the United States, with more than one million participants during the 2018-19 school year, the last full season in which participation was not affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Among high school girls, no sport was more popular than outdoor track and field during the 2018-19 school year.

We’ve finally made it to August folks! It’s been a long, long time without football, but pads are now popping on practice fields across the country and we’re just a few days away from the Pocahontas Redskins pre-season scrimmage opener.

Pocahontas Public School will issue complimentary VIP athletic passes to senior citizens, ages55 and older, living in the Pocahontas School District. These are offered to our patrons who have supported us for many years, and also an effort to get more involved in our activities.

The City of Pocahontas is experiencing remarkable growth, with a strong emphasis on expanding recreational opportunities for families in the region. As part of this ongoing effort, the city recently unveiled the eagerly anticipated Five Rivers Shooting Sports Complex, a state-of-the-art facility spanning thirty-five acres.
