On the back of a stingy defense, the Brookland Bearcats took down the Pocahontas Redskins 20-8 this past Friday night. The action was hot and heavy early, as Brookland recovered a fumble on the opening kickoff that was returned inside the Pocahontas 10-yard line but turned the ball over on downs thanks to a firedup Redskin defense.

Nettleton’s Curtez Smith rolled to over 250 total offensive yards and led the Raiders with 4 TDs in their 42-14 victory over Pocahontas this past Friday night. Nettleton won the opening coin toss, elected to receive and scored the first points of the contest as sophomore running back T.J.
Pocahontas travels to Brookland this Friday night for their final non-conference tilt of the season. The Redskins own an 8-1 record in this series, dating back to the 2012 season, with Brookland’s lone victory coming in 2019. Pocahontas won last year’s contest 47-28.
College football season is an exciting time for sports fans. Each weekend from late summer into early December, teams from across the country lock horns hoping to qualify for the season-ending playoff, which begins on January 1 and culminates with the national championship game on January 8. Between now and then, college football fans can feast on these highly anticipated matchups on the docket for the 2023 season.
Batesville Southside scored two touchdowns in less than a minute to open a 14-point lead and held off Pocahontas 3413 in the season opener for both teams this past Friday night at Schoonover Stadium. Isaac Wallis ran for two touchdowns while Gabe Witt, Zavion Hall and Seth Case each tacked on one apiece for the Southerners (1-0).
Pocahontas travels to Nettleton this Friday for their second of three non-conference games against 5A-East competition. The Redskins have struggled with Nettleton since this series was restarted in 2016, going 1-6, with their lone win coming in 2020.
As of this writing, Pocahontas is scheduled to welcome the Southside Southerners to Schoonover Stadium for their regular season-opener this Friday night, with the game moved to an 8:00pm start time. It is possible, however, that extreme high temperatures forecasted for this week could cause the contest to be rescheduled for the following Monday.
