VFW Post 4556 of Pocahontas is hosting its annual Voice of Democracy Audio Essay Competition. This year’s theme is: “Is America Today Our Forefathers’ Vision?” Post Level prizes are: First Place - $200; 2nd Place - $100; 3rd Place $50.
The Pocahontas High School Redskin Cross Country team continued their successful season participating in the Bison XC Invitational hosted by Harding University in Searcy on Saturday, Sept. 14th. The course was wet from the previous 2 days of rain, but thankfully during the race, the rain held off.
The Pocahontas Lady Redskins traveled to Piggott Monday, Sept. 23, to face the Lady Mohawks in non-conference volleyball action. Piggott won the first set 27-25 but Pocahontas bounced back and took the next three sets 25-12, 25-20 and 25-22. Lillie Thielemier led the Lady Skins with 21 digs, Audrey Murphy had 17 assists, Violet Lynch had 15 kills, Lauren Chester had eight aces and Jacalyn Chester had two blocks.
Brookland’s early dominance proved too much for the Pocahontas Redskins to overcome, as the Bearcats held on for a 21-14 victory Friday night, Sept. 13, at Schoonover Stadium in Pocahontas.
The Pocahontas High School cross country team kicked off its season with impressive performances at the CBC Warrior Invite and Batesville Invitational. At the CBC Warrior Invite, held at Central Baptist Church in Jonesboro, Leona Winslow placed 12th in the girls junior high division, completing the 1.5-mile course in 11:00.66.
The Pocahontas School District offers a complimentary VIP pass to its senior community members who continue to support our school and students in attending athletic events. Eligible members need only be 55 years young and live in the Pocahontas School District.
Pocahontas High School has rolled out its 2024 homecoming theme, “Redskins by 90”. The celebration will feature a parade and ceremonies, with dates and times to be announced soon. The homecoming maids are sophomore maids, Mary Morgan Jansen, Anna Overman and Jacalyn Chester. The Junior Maids are Ashley Baltz, Audrey Holt, Kenzie Ogden and Lilly Thielemier. The Senior Maids chosen are Blakey Williams, Carli Chester, Lauren Chester, Paisley Baltz and Abby Liebhaber.
The PHS Redskin Boys Golf Team defeated Paragould 105-122 Wednesday, September 11, at Rolling Hills Country Club in Pocahontas. Zane Baltz took medalist honors shooting a four under par 32.
Ballard shines with three touchdowns as Pocahontas rolls past Greene County Tech, 38-12 Xavyer Ballard, also known as “X-Man,” delivered an electrifying performance Friday night, leading the Pocahontas Redskins to a commanding 38-12 victory over the Greene County Tech Eagles at Schoonover Stadium. Ballard ignited the Redskins’ offense early in the second quarter, breaking free for a 44-yard touchdown run that put Pocahontas on the board. Brendyn Arnold’s extra point made it 7-0, setting the tone for a night dominated by the home team.
